Previous Question

If I sign a refusal of consent form and put a sticker on my meter, will Hydro-Québec still replace it?

Next Question

Yes, Hydro-Québec will replace your meter, anyway. Sending in a refusal of consent form, putting a sticker on your meter or doing anything similar is not a valid way to opt out.

Next-generation meters are now part of the basic service approved by the Régie de l’énergie [Québec energy board]. The Régie allows those who prefer not to have a next-generation meter to opt out at any time, which means having a non-communicating meter installed that must be read manually. A non-communicating meter, with the payment of the associated charges, is the only alternative to a next-generation meter.
